I've tried and failed to find any numbers for my cars particular combination - or even just how many V70R left the factory from 2004-7 for all markets. I almost never see R models in the UK, though I do regularly see non-R V70s.

329 posts · Joined 2004. #7 · Jun 23, 2015 (Edited) As someone who's been driving a 2004 V70R pretty much every day for the last 11+ years (currently 131K miles), I wouldn't say there's any reason to specifically avoid the '04s. They do have a somewhat inferior version of 4C, and the GTs are overly torque-limited.

First generation Volvo V70 R. As the replacement for the popular 850 T-5R and 850 R, the V70 R was unveiled in May 1997. Similar to the previous generation R models it featured a unique leather/alcantara interior with diamond stitching on the seats. I am avoiding 2004. Motor and transmission were super strong and sure I could’ve gotten it past 300k no problem. 98 v70 t5 - 203k miles when engine went. My only Volvo that gave me constant issues but still never left me stranded. 07 v50 - 232k miles when transmission started to go and had too many other little issues.
